Tom and his wife Polly pioneered local radio in Arkansas, establishing KWXI AM in Glenwood and Pike County in 1980 and later adding KWXE FM, before launching KVRE 92.9 FM in Hot Springs Village in 1994. Together, they successfully ran all three stations until eventually selling KWXI and KWXE, with KVRE remaining Polly’s dream project, where she served as both General Manager and Sales Manager. A Hot Springs native with a background in drama and a scholarship to TCU, Polly brought her creativity and leadership to the station until her passing. Their daughter Alice, born into radio, grew up in Hot Springs and later spent over a decade in Dallas before returning to Arkansas to support her parents and carry on their legacy at KVRE. Now a long-time resident of Hot Springs Village with her husband Dennis, Alice continues to contribute to the community and the station, while proudly cheering on her daughter Alyssa, a UCA nursing graduate now serving as a postpartum nurse in Little Rock. Known affectionately by many as “Sparkles,” Alice embodies the passion, family spirit, and dedication that have defined KVRE since its beginnings.
